In August 2021, the Indian Premier League’s Governing Council invited bidders to submit proposals for two more teams. There were a total of 22 companies that expressed interest, but only six were serious bidders due to the new teams’ high base price. A group of three businesses or people were allowed to submit a joint offer for each franchise by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
With a bid of 7,090 crores, the Sanjiv Goenka-owned RPSG Group was awarded the franchise to run the Lucknow location. Lucknow Super Gaint Previous Season
The squad brought a large number of players to the mega auction, which was held in February 2022, with a higher proportion of all-rounders. Numerous prominent international athletes, like Quinton de Kock, Mark Wood, Krunal Pandya, and Marcus Stoinis, were brought in by the team.
Later, the squad appointed Andy Flower, a retired Zimbabwean cricketer, as the team’s head coach for the upcoming season and KL Rahul as the team’s captain. Additionally, the Franchise named Gautam Gambhir as the team’s mentor. Due to the continuous Australian series abroad, all-rounder Marcus Stoinis was unavailable for the first part of the season.
Due to an injury, it was known before the season began that English pace bowler Mark Wood would not be able to join the club. As a result, the franchise selected Australian bowler Andrew Tye in Mark’s place to fill the position of pace bowler for the team’s inaugural season.
LSG finished third in the table during its inaugural IPL season, qualifying them for the playoffs. They were eliminated by Royal Challengers Bangalore, who were in fourth place, in the Eliminator Match.
