Sydney Thunder Team is the franchise in BBL which is direct by Australia Cricket. Its home ground is Sydney Showground Stadium. The Salary cap of the Sydney team in the inaugural season was $1 Million. Australia Cricket decides to make 8 franchise teams for the league from 8 different states. But this decision was not solid to run the league, therefore, they select 4 teams from 2 cities in the country. Sydney and Melbourne are those cities that have two franchise teams. In the inaugural season of the Big Bash League, they can not perform well and finished the season in the bottom position. In the next two seasons, the performance of the Sydney team was like the previous season. 4th season of the league, they come one step high in team ranking position. Sydney team start the 5th edition of the tournament with good performance but lost the next matches. Sydney team plays last two matches of league stage in their home ground. But could not qualify for the semi-final.
BBL Season 6
They finished the 6th season in a better position. Sydney team won 7 games out of 14 and end the tournament in 4th place in the points table. The thunder team lost 4 games after winning the 2 matches. They play the final against Melbourne Stars on their home ground. They try their best to win the match but lost it by 3 wickets and end the season as runner-up.
BBL season 11
After the Covid attack in 11 seasons of the Big Bash League, Chris Green led the team as captain. Under his captaincy, the team play well in the beginning but could not maintain their position. In the eliminator’s first, match they are knockout from the tournament. The thunder team ended the season with 3rd position on the table.
